Nov 16, 2019 | 8:08 AM

The Whitecourt Wolverines broke open a tight game with three goals in the final six minutes of the third period to pull out a 5-1 win over the visiting Grande Prairie Storm on Friday night.

Ethan Green scored a power play goal to open the scoring for Whitecourt in the first period, while Cassidy Bowes added another power play goal in the second to make it 2-0.

Cade Mason scored the lone Storm goal – also on the power play – late in the second to pull the visitors within one after 40 minutes.

Bjorn Robinson and Ryan Wallz scored 26 seconds apart to push Whitecourt’s lead to 4-1, before Wallz added his second of the night late in the third to salt away the win.

Whitecourt’s power play went 3-for-4 on the evening, while the Storm scored once in five extra man opportunities.

Kaeden Lane made 32 saves in the Storm net, while Vincent Duplessis kicked aside 21 shots.

The Storm return to action Saturday night as the North Division leading Sherwood Park Crusaders make their first visit of the season to Revolution Place.

Puck drop is set for 7:30.
