Lefley provides heroics as Vipers edge Kings

Clint Lefley’s powerplay goal at the 4:17 mark of overtime pushed the Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers to a 5-4 home ice win over the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings on Saturday night.

Jace Grant scored twice for the Vipers while Gavin Huber and Jordan Bartlett added singles.

Corban Doram scored twice for the Kings, while Grant Yee and Bailey Hartman added singles.

In other NWJHL action on Saturday, Braden Streich scored twice as the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks beat the Fairview Flyers 7-5 for the second straight night.

Mason Ducharme, Blake Wilson, Dex Elders, Brandon Rowley and Dustin Bahm also scored for the Junior Canucks, who moved into sole possession of second place in the NWJHL with the win.

Deklan Whillans recorded a hat trick for the Flyers, while Rylee Hebert and Dawson Blanchette added singles.

It was a feisty affair, as the teams combined for 196 penalty minutes.

And in Fort St John, the league leading Huskies got goals from seven different players en route to a 7-1 win over North Peace.

Dean Whitcomb, Logan kimmie, Joel Bourgeois, Jared Winkel, Brady Marzocco, Alex Nimmo and Connor Kindrat scored for the Huskies, while Benny Yellowknee replied for the Navigators.

Those two teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon in Fort St John.
