Bernard to join Team Scheidegger for next Grand Slam event

An Olympic medalist is returning to the ice to sub for Team Scheidegger at the next stop for the Grand Slam of Curling.

Grande Prairie-born Cheryl Bernard will be joining the foursome for the National December 10 through 15 in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Grande Prairie’s Kristie Moore and Cary Ann McTaggart are the lead and third respectively with the team.

Moore and Bernard won Olympic silver together at the 2010 Games in Vancouver.

Team Gushue and Team Koe will also be at the National.

Elsewhere, Sexsmith’s Daylen Vavrek, Karsten Sturmay, and Kayla Skrlik all finished 3-3 and out of the playoffs at the Red Deer Curling Classic.

Skrlik is originally from Falher, but now curls out of Calgary. The Sturmay team includes Dawson Creek products Tristan Steinke and Jason Ginter.
