City of Grande Prairie announces layoffs Tuesday

The City of Grande Prairie says in a social media post that they have reduced City staff by 40 positions, in what they are calling “re-structuring”.

Today’s reduction of over 40 positions is a significant but necessary right-sizing which will ensure the City’s long-term ability to deliver high quality services to the community. Transition support has been provided to the employees affected.

They further go on to say that “transition support” is being provided to those affected, though no immediate word was available as to which positions were affected.

The announcement comes just one day after the City reduced its budget by nearly $6-million, while also increasing property taxes for the year 2020 by 1.25%.
