Vipers hoping to carry momentum into Peace River Wednesday

Nov 20, 2019 | 8:20 AM

The Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers will be looking to continue building more positive storylines as they travel up to Peace River tonight to square off with the North Peace Navigators in the lone game on the NWJHL schedule Wednesday.

Coming in with a rather nasty looking seven-game losing streak on Saturday, the Vipers finally got back in the win column, thanks to Clint Lefley’s overtime marker to give Sexsmith a 5-4 win over the rival JDA Kings.

It was the team’s first win since October 18. To make matters worse with their losing skid, the latter three games of the slump saw the Vipers allow at least nine goals in each game.

Tonight’s matchup will be the fourth of the season between the Vipers and Navs, with North Peace holding a 2-1 advantage so far in the season series.

The Navs will be looking to shed a two-game losing streak of their own, following a pair of losses in Fort St. John last weekend to the league-leading Huskies. The Navigators sit just five points back of those Huskies for top spot in the NWJHL and had been riding a seven-game winning streak coming into last weekend.

Faceoff from the Baytex Energy Centre tonight is 8:00.
