Local schools earn medals at volleyball provincials

Two Grande Prairie schools are returning home with medals from high school volleyball provincials.

Charles Spencer girls took bronze at 4A playdowns in Edmonton, beating host Jasper Place three games to none (25-22, 25-23, 25-23) in the bronze medal game.

Meanwhile Peace Wapiti Academy girls also won bronze at the 3A provincials in St Paul, beating Cochrane two games to one (25-19, 21-25, 15-11) in the bronze medal game.

Beaverlodge was also at the 3A girls provincials, but lost to Cochrane two games to one (24-26, 25-21, 15-11) in the quarterfinals.

.The St Joe’s boys came close to a medal, only to lose out two games to none (25-23, 25-19) to Lethbridge in the bronze medal game of the 3A boys tournament in Magrath.

Other results for Peace Region schools:

– 4A Boys (Jasper Place) – Charles Spencer beat Holy Trinity two games to none (25-20, 26-24) in the 11th place game.

– 2A Girls (Three Hills) – Sexsmith Secondary finished 2-3 in the round robin and failed to make the playoff round.

– 2A Boys (Lethbridge) – Peace River High finished 1-4 in the round robin and failed to make the playoff round.

– 1A Boys (Bow island) – St Thomas More (Fairview) finished 0-4 in round robin and failed to make the playoffs.

– 1A Girls (Bow Island) – St Thomas More (Fairview) finished 2-2 in round robin, and lost quarter final two games to none to Bawlf. Meanwhile, Hines Creek was 1-3 in round robin and did not make the playoff round.
