Hold and Secure

Hold and Secure ended at Harry Balfour

Nov 25, 2019 | 9:12 AM

UPDATE (10:15 a.m.): The Peace Wapiti Public School Division says the hold and secure has ended at Harry Balfour, at the advice of the RCMP.

The hold and secure was put in place around 9:00 a.m. Monday morning as there was a heavy police presence in the area.

The school division says in a statement that school staff took extra precautions to keep the students safe while police did their work in the area.

The RCMP have blocked off the 104 block of 108 Ave., which is located just to the west of the school, and are currently working at a residence on that block. Police say there is no threat or concern for public safety.

Hold and secures are put in place when an unrelated threat or incident, in close proximity to the school, is taking place outside of the school.

During such occurences, classes and activities continue inside the school while the doors to the school are locked to limit access and exit from the building.
