Grande Prairie location of the Canadian Mental Health Association looking at new location

The Canadian Mental Health Association in Grande Prairie is taking steps towards a new location.

A development permit for a change of use to a Community Outreach Facility was approved by the Infrastructure and Economic Development Committee Tuesday morning.

Randy Arsenault, Executive Director of the CMHA for Grande Prairie, says they are planning to move the Housing First, disability services and the mobile addiction services to the new location, where they will have more space.

“Mobile addictions, they see roughly four, five hundred people a month. Housing First, they have a caseload of approximately seventy-five individuals a month, and disability services, aside from the fifty staff, we have twenty clients.”

Arsenault adds that he hopes with the move, they can offer more services than what they have.

The new location would be on 110 Avenue, says Arsenault.

“It’s still considered downtown, which we wanted, to be accessible. We are also having a client engagement room, which we currently have, where our clients come and move forward in their journey for wellness, we have rooms for crafts, whether it’s painting, cooking skills.”

He says that this new building would be a good start to their 25th anniversary next year and that they are hoping the building will be open around February and March.
