Lots of Christmas activities planned for Sunday in downtown Grande Prairie

Nov 28, 2019 | 4:30 AM

Santa will be in downtown Grande Prairie Sunday.

The annual Santa Claus Parade will start at 4 p.m. that day.

Downtown Association Executive Director Wendy Bosch tells us some of the things parade-goers will see.

“Floats and a lot of big equipment, big trucks and big semis, fire trucks. Just big equipment that kids love to see.”

Bosch adds that Santa is always the star attraction when it comes to the annual event.

“Santa always comes. He’s at the end of the parade, of course, so that all the kids can visit him. Once he arrives at Revolution Place after the parade, he’ll be going into the Bowes side and we will do free Santa photos. (You can) take your own photo,” adds Bosch.

The parade will start at 102 Street and 100 Avenue, then go east to 100 Street and south to 99 Avenue before ending at Revolution Place.

It will be followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree in front of Revolution Place by Mayor Bill Given at 5:30. There will also be live music, a movie, and cookies and hot chocolate served by the Storm players.

The first-ever Battle of the Badges hockey game will then close out the evening at 6 pm.
