JDA Kings snap losing streak with win over Vipers

Nov 29, 2019 | 9:14 AM

The JDA Kings have finally won a game in the month of November.

Cameron Beson made 40 saves on the night, helping lead the County of Grande Prairie squad to a 3-1 victory over the Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers at the Crosslink County Sportsplex in Thursday NWJHL action.

The win is the Kings’ first since October 28, which snaps a five-game losing skid.

The teams were scoreless after the opening period of play. Bailey Hartman would open the scoring early in the second period on the power play with his eighth of the season, giving the Kings a 1-0 lead.

The Vipers would tie it up midway through the period, with Wyatt Collins scoring his second of the year. Kyle Sha would score just over two minutes later to gives the lead back to the Kings after 40 minutes of play.

That goal would turn out to be the game winner, as both Beson and Vipers goalie Tyson Walker would close the door in the third. Cody Graw would add an empty netter late in the final frame as the insurance marker for the Kings.

Walker would take home star of the game honours for his efforts in the Vipers net, as he turned aside 49 shots in the loss.

One other game went in the North West Junior Hockey League Thursday, as the Fort St. John Huskies claimed a 3-2 overtime victory over the Flyers in Fairview. Jared Loewen scored the overtime winner, giving him sole possession as the league’s points leader with 27 points.

Next league action comes on Saturday with all six teams on the ice.

The JDA Kings visit the Flyers, the Vipers will host the North Peace Navigators and the Huskies will be home to the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks. All games start at 8:00.
