JDA Kings win third straight against Junior Canucks

Dec 5, 2019 | 10:03 AM

In what was a penalty filled affair, the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings continued to ride their hot hand on Wednesday night, defeating the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks by a score of 7-2 to pick up the team’s season-high third straight win.

The JDA Kings started off the scoring thanks to a goal from Grant Yee 6:33 into the game to put the Kings up 1-0.

After a quick response from the Junior Canucks to make the game 1-1, Darby Berg would tap home the go-ahead goal on the power play with 9:25 remaining to put the JDA Kings up 2-1 at the intermission.

In the second period the JDA Kings picked up right where they left off, as Blake Gillingham would pop home an early second period goal to make it a 3-1 game.

Shortly after the Gllingham goal tempers began to flare with 10 minutes left in the second period. Kyle Chaifoux and Brayden Bauman of the Kings were both issued game misconducts for fighting. While Sam Needham and Raymond Prive would also be issued game misconducts for fighting. Both teams combined for 72 penalty minutes in the second period.

After the dust had settled, the JDA Kings didn’t look back. Brody Thomson would bury a goal with less than three minutes remaining in the period to make it a 4-1 Kings lead.

In the third period it was Darby Berg leading the way, scoring two goals to give himself the hat trick in only his third game with the squad, helping propel the JDA Kings to a 7-2 victory over the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks.

Berg joined the team through a trade with the KIJHL’s Castlegar Rebels back in November.

The JDA Kings will look to extend their winning streak to four games on Friday night as they travel to Sexsmith to face the Vipers at 8:00 p.m.

The team will then return home on Saturday to take on the Fort St. John Huskies. Puck drop for that game is at 8:00 p.m. at the Crosslink Country Sportsplex.
