Storm look to continue building momentum against Czech Republic

Following a weekend sweep of one of the top teams in the AJHL, the Spruce Grove Saints. The Grande Prairie Storm will look to continue to build momentum as they play a quick exhibition match against the Czech Republic. The Czech will be playing their final game before the begin the World Junior A Challenge this Saturday in Dawson Creek.

The Storm will be led by local product and newly signed center Austin Schellenberg who is making his Storm season debut tonight. Schellenberg played his minor hockey with GPAC and appeared in two games as a 16-year-old for the Storm.

Eric Hein is the business manager for the Grande Prairie Storm and talked about how excited the team is to have the local product returning home.

“Austin brings a ton of speed to our lineup and forward group, he’s really dynamic and we are excited to see him play. We will have seven locals in our line up including two call ups from GPAC, so it really doesn’t get any more homegrown than that.”

Eric also mentioned how tonight’s game is a little different compared to a regular season AJHL game for those heading down to the rink tonight.

“Our 50/50 will be starting at $2500, we have an exiting special giveaway that you have to come to the game to find out. We also have a signed national team Czech jersey that we are raffling off and a day The Dunes. We also have some other exciting things planned for the night. It really should be an outstanding fan experience tonight.”

Meanwhile on the Czech side they will be lead by head coach Miroslav Prerost. Prerost served time from 2010-2018 as the head coach of the Czech Republic’s U-20 World Junior Hockey Championships team.

You also might see an interesting name on the ice, as Zack Malik the son of former NHLer Marek Malik will be suiting up for the Czech Republic.
