Two men charged after firearm discharged inside Grande Prairie residence

Two Grande Prairie males have been charged after a firearm went off inside a residence in the Lakeland neighbourhood.

On November 24, 2019, RCMP responded to a report of shots being fired in a multi-family home.

An investigation revealed a firearm had been discharged form the top floor residence into the lower level.

21-year-old Dylan Sutton and 25-year-old Christopher Howat were arrested at the scene.

Police obtained a search warrant for the residence, where they then found stolen mail and cocaine. Electronics, jewelry and clothes were also found that had been stolen from a residence the day before.

Sutton has been charged with 12 criminal offences, including recklessly discharging a firearm, possession of stolen property and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.

Howat is facing eight criminal offences, including recklessly discharging a firearm and possession of a firearm and ammunition while prohibited.

Sutton was held in custody and appeared in court on December 4, 2019. Howat was released and will appear in court on December 12, 2019.

There were no reported injuries in this incident.
