Dec 11, 2019 | 1:09 PM

All three teams that have players with local connections won their openers at the National, the latest stop for the Grand Slam of Curling.

In Tuesday night’s opening draw, Brad Gushue beat Scott McDonald 6-2, Kevin Koe won 6-4 over Matt Dunstone, and Team Scheidegger won 8-6 over Kerri Einarson. Kristie Moore is filling in at skip for Team Scheidegger.

Beaverlodge product Geoff Walker is the lead on Team Gushue, Koe is a former Grande Prairie resident, and Kristie Moore and Cary-Ann McTaggart from the Swan City are with Team Scheidegger. Moore is filling in at skip this week. The team’s usual skip, Casey Scheidegger, recently gave birth and is expected back in the Nea Year, according to a post on the Team Scheidegger Facebook page.

All three play again at 5 pm Alberta time Wednesday.

Team Scheidegger plays Scotland’s Eve Muirhead. Koe will also play a rink from Scotland, this one skipped by Ross Peterson. Gushue plays Dunstone.

Play will continue through Sunday.
