The latest report from Alberta Health Services shows there have been three confirmed fatalities caused by lab-confirmed influenza in Alberta so far this flu season, with one of those cases occurring in the North Zone.

Alberta Health Services released its weekly report on Thursday, which shows the other two deaths occurred in the Calgary and Edmonton zones.

A total of 71 cases of Influenza A and B have been confirmed in the North Zone since August 25. 12 people have been admitted to hospital among those cases in the zone that includes Grande Prairie.

Across Alberta, 911 confirmed cases of the flu have been reported as of December 7. 181 of those cases have sent patients to hospital.

The data shows that just under 1.2 million doses of influenza vaccine have been administered across the province. 90,834 people in the North Zone have received the vaccine, which is about 8,000 less vaccines administered in the area compared to all of last flu season.
