Alberta liquor and cannabis stores now allowed to open on Christmas Day

Dec 17, 2019 | 5:53 AM

The Government of Alberta and Alberta Gaming, Liquor Cannabis (AGLC) will now allow liquor and cannabis businesses to be open on Dec. 25.

The province says this is another example of their commitment to reducing red tape and supporting businesses to make their own decisions.

“Since the creation of Alberta’s privatized liquor model in 1993, the province’s retail liquor marketplace has evolved – providing Albertans with unparalleled selection, convenience and responsible customer service,” a government press release states.

The announcement impacts minors-prohibited establishments or venues where youth under the age of 18 are not permitted (Class A), and stores (Class D), where liquor service is the main source of business.
