Senior Adrenaline Athletics Cheerleading Team wins first place at Inspire Championship in Edmonton

Dec 18, 2019 | 2:25 PM

This past weekend in Edmonton, the senior Adrenaline Athletics Cheerleading Team took home first place at the Inspire Championship in the Senior co-ed 3 division. The junior team also participated in the tournament. They took home fifth place in the Junior 2 division at the tournament.

The senior team is made up of athletes from the age of 11-17 and the junior team is made up of athletes from ages 8-12.

The Inspire Championship in Edmonton is usually the first time that the club gets to see and compete against the top teams from across the province. So going into the competition there is a lot of unknown.

“Early competitions are always a bit of struggle in the sense that it’s always so early in the season and things are not polished,” said Jennifer Lekisch, the owner of Adrenaline Athletics. “I always say to my athletes that we’re not going there to win, we’re going there to learn.”

Leisch told EverythingGP that regardless if the team has won or lost a competition, they always want to learn from the experience.

“I try to teach our athletes that we win and lose the same way. Regardless of how we placed at a competition, it’s a learning experience for us. We handle it with grace, of course we get excited, but we try and not allow it to de-humble us.”

The cheer teams will shift their focus the new year. The next competition they will compete in is the Cold Snap competition at the Edmonton Expo Centre from January 28-29. At the end of February, they will compete in the True North tournament also in Edmonton and will then round out the provincial season at the Ace Extravaganza in April.

The team will end their season in May, where both the senior and junior cheer teams will travel to Las Vegas, to compete in the National Championships.
