Storm hire Taylor Makin as new assistant coach

Jan 4, 2020 | 7:35 AM

The Grande Prairie Storm announced that they have hired Taylor Makin as an assistant coach.

Makin replaces General Manager Mark Bomersback behind the bench, who was filling in as an assistant while the team worked to fill the assistant coaching role.

While Makin doesn’t come to the Storm with any coaching experience, he does come with a long junior and professional hockey career.

Makin spent five seasons with the Prince George Cougars and Vancouver Giants of the WHL, and one season with the Brooks Bandits where he had 50 points in 50 games, helping the Bandits win the AJHL title and the RBC cup.

He also spent five seasons playing for Acadia University, 12 games for the Brest of France2 and 11 games for the Evansville Thunderbolts of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

“I talked to Ryan in December, when he found out that he was going to be getting the head coaching job he contacted me. We had talked about it before that when he gets that head coaching job I’d love to come and work with him. I’m really excited,” Makin told EverythingGP.

Makin will be behind the bench for this weekend’s games against Drumheller and Olds.
