Talent wanted: Local brewery looking for Peace Country’s unique entertainers

If you think you have a talent to showcase or share with the world, a local brewery is looking for you.

Looking for what they call “Alternative Entertainment”, Grain Bin Brewing Company in Grande Prairie has put out a call to anyone who has a talent or activity they think might be captivating and interesting, to share with local residents.

With their goal of having their tap room be a relaxing and social gathering place, Scott Carroll with Grain Bin says there is no better way to do that than to bring in local people who can bring something unique and interesting to the room.

“We thrive on our customers interacting with each other and interacting with us, and just having a good time and finding entertainment amongst themselves.”

This is something Carroll and his business partner, Dalen Landis, are doing on a trial and error basis. One, because they aren’t totally sure of all the different types of talent that might be offered here in Grande Prairie and area.

And two, since they want to find ways to bring in all different types of people from across the area.

“Alternative entertainment can be anything from trivia nights, which we’ve done in the past, to doing art classes where people can learn art for a low cost,” said Carroll. “Just interact with other people and find people of the same mindset.”

Since putting out the call on social media last week, Carroll says he has heard from a lot of different people with a lot of different talents and ideas. Many of which he might never have known about.

“A lot of it looks fun and interesting. There is a lot of cool things in this town that I didn’t even know existed,” said Carroll. “There’s different art forms and such that I didn’t even know were part of the realm of possibility.”

“We’re looking forward to trying some different stuff in here.”

Though they are very open to any ideas brought forward, Carroll said there are two important factors that must be considered: it has to be PG-13 and come at a low cost.

”It’s easy to spend 30, 40, 50, 60, a couple hundred bucks on a night of entertainment. We want to keep that down,” said Carroll. “If it’s something that we can do with us covering our costs and the person coming in making a little bit of money; if we can do it for 10 bucks a night, that’s brilliant.”

One idea presented that fits that mould, rather fittingly, is what is called “Beer-Ga”. That’s yoga, but with a flight of beer mixed in with it. The price point for that, according to Carroll, is $30 all in for each participant.

If you’re interested in showcasing your talents at Grain Bin, you can head down to the brewery (#101-11707 97 Ave) or email Scott at sales@grainbinbeer.com.

Any upcoming events would be planned for future dates and posted on their social media sites, like Facebook.
