A man from Goodfare has been charged with impaired driving, following a two-vehicle collision that he allegedly tried to run away from on Christmas Day near Beaverlodge.

Emergency services responded to a call of a collision between an SUV and a truck around 6:35 p.m. on December 25, just north of Beaverlodge along Highway 43.

The two occupants of the SUV were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The male driver, and lone occupant of the truck, left the scene on foot. RCMP say he was found and arrested soon after.

51-year-old James David “Troy” Richards is now facing multiple charges, including:

  • Failure to stop after an accident
  • Overtaking and passing a vehicle when unsafe
  • Driving carelessly
  • Operation of a motor vehicle without holding subsiding operator’s licence

Richards is scheduled to appear at the Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Feb. 10, 2020.
