Albertans graduate from astronaut school

Jan 10, 2020 | 4:09 PM

It’s a small step toward the moon, but a giant leap for two Canadians.

The two Albertans who graduated today from NASA’s basic astronaut training will be part of the next generation of space explorers hoping to return to Earth’s satellite and beyond.

Joshua Kudryk, who is 37, is from Fort Saskatchewan and Jenni Sidey-Gibbons, who is 31, is from Calgary.

Kudryk is a former fighter test pilot with three graduate degrees.

Sidey-Gibbons has a PhD in engineering and is a former Cambridge University lecturer.

They face at least two more years of training before getting a mission assignment, but both hope they’ll be part of a U.S.-led plan to return to the moon within four years.
