Smith, team Canada drop opener of Olympics qualifying tournament

Beaverlodge’s Dani Smith and the rest of the Canadian women’s volleyball team dropped their opening game at the NORCECA Women’s Olympic qualifying tournament.
Smith had one service ace and played in all five sets for Canada, as they fell 3-2 to Puerto Rico ( 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 12-15).
Canada will play the host Dominican Republic on Saturday night, before facing Mexico on Sunday.
The team with the best record at the end of the round robin will earn a berth into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
