Good night for Dawson Creek teams while Athletics continue to roll

Both the Dawson Creek Senior and Junior Canucks picked up wins in their respective leagues on Saturday night.

In Falher, the Senior Canucks got goals from six different players as they edged the hometown Pirates 6-5.

Joey Messingham, Evan Weaver, Reid Campbell, Kevin Hope, Levi George and Jeff Taylor scored for the Canucks, while Morgan Maclean (2), Darren Kramer, Trevor Tokarz and Dallas Brochu replied for the Pirates.

The win allowed the Canucks to keep pace with the Grande Prairie Athletics atop the NPHL standings, as the A’s got a late power play goal from Jordan McTaggart to edge Grimshaw 5-4.

Lyndin Lews, Marc-Antoine Viens, Kyle Lipinski and Bryce Lipinski also scored for the Athletics, while Josh Peters (2), Christian Kenny and Tyler Brenner replied for the Huskies.

Meanwhile, the Junior Canucks rattled off four unanswered goals to erase an early 1-0 deficit en route to a 4-1 win over the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings in NWJHL play on Saturday.

Mason Mcleod scored twice to lead the Junior Canucks attack, who also got goals from Dustin Bahm and Dayton Nelson.

Corbin Doram replied for the Kings.

Also on Saturday night, Logan Mazerolle scored three times to lead Fairview to an 8-4 win over the Sundown Oilfield Sexsmith Vipers.

Kyler Hamelin, Zacheri Schlachter, Cale Fox, Sage Joachim and Eric Dentinger also scored for the Flyers, while Kail Magnusson (2), Josh Jukes and Jordan Bartlett replied for the Vipers.

No score was available for the game between the Fort St John Huskies and North Peace Navigators.

In other local hockey action on Saturday, Hudson Foley scored the game winner at the 7:11 mark of the third period as the Ernie’s Sports Experts GPAC Major Midget Storm edged Okotoks 4-3.

Ethan Boutcher, Dayne Tews and Austen Hansen also scored for the Storm.

No scores were available from either of the Bantam AA games on Saturday, as the Dreger Racing team Bantam AA Storm hosted Whitecourt, while the Higson Dental Office Storm visited Sturgeon.

Higson Dental Group visits Fort Saskatchewan on Sunday afternoon.

There were also no score or details available from the PCFAC Midget Female Elite Storm’s game on Saturday in Lloydminster.

Those two teams are slated to meet again on Sunday in the border city.
