Nathan Morgan's power play goal in the third tied the game at 3

Storm fall in Drayton Valley for second straight night

The Grande Prairie Storm looked at this weekend’s road trip as a chance to close the gap on not only fifth place Drayton Valley, but also pull themselves within striking distance of fourth place Whitecourt in the AJHL North division.

Both of those tasks have instead taken a huge hit so far.

For the second straight night, the hometown Thunder edged the Storm on Saturday, this time needing a shoot out to pull out a 4-3 victory.

The Storm led 1-0 and 2-1 after the first and second periods respectively, as Jackson Wozniak scored in the first and Juliano Santalucia added another marker in the second.

However, after falling behind 3-2 in the third, the Storm needed a power play goal from Nathan Morgan with 6:17 remaining to send the game to overtime and salvage at least a point.

In the shoot out, both Morgan and Brody Dale failed to score, while Kadyn Chabot and Colson Gengenbach found the back of the net for Drayton Valley.

Grayson Reid, Jeremy Klessens, and Dylan Price scored in regulation for the Thunder.

Lars Kaliel made 40 saves in the Storm.

The shoot out loss now leaves the Storm four points back of Drayton Valley for fifth in the North, although the Storm still have three games in hand.

They are now also six points back of Whitecourt for fourth place, with the Wolverines holding a game in hand on Grande Prairie.

The Storm wrap up their road trip this afternoon in Sherwood Park against the division leading Crusaders.
