RCMP investigating unconfirmed carjacking in the Avondale neighbourhood

A man is recovering in the hospital after being the victim of a possible assault and carjacking on Wednesday morning.
RCMP confirm they responded to a call at 109 avenue and 102 street at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, and that a man was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
An unconfirmed witness, who posted on a local Facebook group Wednesday, describes the incident. The post says a man stepped out into the street, stopping an oncoming pickup truck. A second suspect then smashed the truck’s window, pepper sprayed the driver, and together the pair beat the driver with a baseball bat. The pair then fled the scene in the stolen truck.
The RCMP say they have not received any official statements from witnesses, and therefore do not know the make or model of the stolen vehicle, have any descriptions of the suspects, or can confirm or deny whether the details of the post are accurate.
