Encana gets approval to change name, move headquarters

By the end of next week Encana will be doing business under its new name.

That’s after Alberta’s Court of Queen’s Bench approved the oil and gas company’s reorganization.

Encana is changing its name to Ovintiv and moving its headquarters from Calgary to Denver.

Shareholders approved the changes by a 90 per cent margin earlier this week, despite public criticism from Encana founder Gwyn Morgan and shareholder Letko, Brosseau & Associates.

The company says the headquarters move will expose it to increasingly larger pools of investment in U-S index funds and passively managed accounts and that the changes won’t affect how it runs its day-to-day activities in Canada.
