Canucks take over first place in NPHL with win over Athletics

The Dawson Creek Canucks downed the Grande Prairie Athletics 3-1 Tuesday night to take over top spot in the NPHL standings.

The Canucks struck first with a goal from Reid Campbell 8:39 into the first period to lead 1-0. The Canucks also outshot the Athletics 14-8 in the period.

In the second Dolan Bjorson would add to the Canucks lead 7:03 into the period, making it 2-0.

Not long after Braden Crone would get the Athletics on the board to make it a 2-1 game.

With 23 seconds left Owen LaClare would regain the Canucks two goal lead, making in 3-1 after 40 minutes.

The third period saw several good chances in the third, but the teams weren’t able to capitalize. The Canucks would go onto win 3-1 and take over first place in the NPHL standings.

The two teams will face each other again on Thursday in Dawson Creek.
