Ticket sales scam

Revolution Place is warning of marked-up ticket scam

Jan 24, 2020 | 4:06 PM

Event goers beware, as ticket sales scammers are targeting acts at Revolution Place, and charging much more than what their worth.

Websites mimicking Grande Prairie’s stadium is tricking ticket buyers into paying inflated prices, sometimes up to four times the actual cost.

Events and Marketing Specialist at Revolution Place, Chelsea O’Neil, says these third party websites will usually pop up first in an online search.

“They use a lot of tactics, like our colours and imaging and everything that you’d see on our website, so they look really reputable. But then they’re charging a huge surplus to buy the ticket on behalf for you. So you do end up with a ticket, but they, without you really realizing, bought it for you and have charged you way more that what we would have charged you.”

She adds that Revolution Place doesn’t use any third parties to sell their tickets, like Stub Hub or Ticket Master, and ticket sales shouldn’t be trusted if they’re not coming through Revolution Place’s website.

“If you want to buy tickets, if you want to find out exactly what they’re on sale for, just start at revolutionplace.com, and don’t trust (anywhere else). Even sometime Facebook events, we do use Facebook events, but it will take you to revolutionplace.com first. So sometimes these same websites are setting up Facebook events to try to trick you.”

She adds sometimes these fake sites try to charge in US dollars, and O’Neil says they would never use a foreign currency when charging for tickets.

O’Neil also says anyone scammed this way won’t be able to get all their money back if they try to get a refund, as Revolution Place wasn’t the one who charged the marked up price.

Anyone who feels uneasy buying tickets online can call the box office at 780-538-0387, or visit in person to buy the tickets.
