County of Grande Prairie names 2020 Farm Family of the Year

Jan 27, 2020 | 5:24 PM

The Ray and Dunnigan families have been named the 2020 County of Grande Prairie Farm Family of the Year.

They have the Halcourt Land and Cattle Company, an operation that has cattle plus 3500 acres of cropland.

The Halcourt-area farm has been in the family since 1911 when it was homesteaded by Scotty and Helen Ray.

The farm now includes Gary and Daphne Ray, their son Josh, his wife Catherine, along with their three children, son-in-law Don, daughter Chelsea Dunnigan, and their three kids.

Family members are also involved in hockey, baseball, volleyball, swimming, and dance.

“We’re thrilled with this honour. It’s important to be able to carry on a long-standing family tradition and raise our children to be proud of this heritage. We love our farm life and being part of the local community, ” says Josh Ray in news release sent out by the County.

“Our 2020 recipients exemplify longevity on the land and a deep commitment to agriculture and family. We are proud to have them as our Farm Family for this year,” added County Ag. Fieldman Sonja Raven in that same release.

The family will be saluted at the Foster’s Peace Country Classic Agri-Show.

It will run March 12 through 14 at Evergreen Park.
