Trio of Peace Country artists nominated for JUNO Awards
A trio of Peace Country musicians have been nominated alongside the likes of Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes and Avril Lavigne for Canadian music awards.
Grande Prairie’s Tenille Townes and Celeigh Cardinal, as well as Spirit River’s Aaron Goodvin, have been nominated for 2020 JUNO Awards, following the unveiling of the full list of nominees Tuesday morning.
Townes is up for two awards: Breakthrough Artist of the Year, as well as Songwriter of the Year. Goodvin is nominated for Country Album of the Year for his album “V”, while Cardinal is up for Indigenous Artist of the Year.
For Townes, this adds to a busy time of accomplishments and milestones. After singing the Canadian national anthem at the NHL All-Star game this past Saturday, her latest single “Jersey on the Wall (I’m Just Asking)” was listed as the number one song on the Canadian Country Music charts on Monday. The honour comes exactly one year to the week that Townes first topped the charts with “Somebody’s Daughter”.
