Traffic stop leads to seizure of over $80,000 worth of drugs in Slave Lake

A traffic stop in Slave Lake on January 28, 2020, has led to the seizure of over $80,000 worth of drugs.

Officers conducting targeted patrols high-crime areas of Slave Lake determined that a suspicious white sedan was seen driving had been reported stolen from Drayton Valley earlier in the day.

A traffic stop occurred, and four occupants of the white sedan were arrested. Inside the car, police found methamphetamine, cocaine, and Oxycontin, as well as Canadian currency.

Further investigation led to the execution of a judicial search warrant at a residence in Slave Lake, where more illegal drugs were seized on January 29.

Three people from Slave Lake, 29-year-old Braden Foster, 21-year-old Savannah Radcliff, and 25-year-old Tessa Dunsmore, and 24-year-old Paige Ziegler of Drayton Valley, have all been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime among other charges.

“A seizure of this magnitude in a community such as Slave Lake will have a significant impact on crime” says Staff Sergeant John Spaans of the Slave Lake Detachment in a media release. “Officers employed an analytical approach to their patrols, focusing on hot spots within the community. This approach was paramount in taking these drugs off of the street”.

Foster and Radcliff are to appear in Slave Lake Provincial Court on February 12, while Dunsmore and Ziegler are to appear in court on March 3.
