Jan 31, 2020 | 11:35 AM

The Grande Prairie Athletics defeated the Dawson Creek Canucks 6-5 Thursday night in the shootout to close out the regular season portion of their schedule.

With the win coming in the shootout, the Canucks earned the single point they needed and have officially clinched first place in the North Peace Hockey League and home ice throughout the playoffs.

The playoffs for both the A’s and Canucks will get underway on February 15. Their opponents are still to be determined as the Manning Comets and Falher Pirates battle for third place this weekend. Both teams are tied with 12 points with two games remaining each.

Whoever finishes fourth in the standings will have to play the Grimshaw Huskies in a best-of-five series to determine the final playoff spot.
