Jail time for suspect in “violent home invasion”

Feb 3, 2020 | 5:30 AM

A Grande Prairie man has been sentenced after a shooting of another man at Horse Lake First Nation almost two years ago.

Alberta Justice says Dustin Dennis MacAuley was given a four-year sentence in relation to the June 9, 2018 incident.

Beaverlodge RCMP said at the time that just after midnight that day, they were called to what they described as a violent home invasion. A man had been taken to hospital with a gunshot wound.

MacAuley was given a four-year sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of aggravated assault and a three-year concurrent term for another charge of housebreaking to commit theft. He was also ordered to provide a DNA sample.

Three other charges were withdrawn in Grande Prairie court January 13.

MacAuley was also given 729 days credit for time already spent in custody.

The original release from RCMP said there were two other suspects, but there is no mention of them in court documents provided to EverythingGP by the courthouse or in any other media releases from the police.
