Survey launched to better understand residents needs and wants with recreation

The Grande Prairie Regional Recreation Committee has launched a survey to better understand community needs.

Krista Schuett, Regional Recreation Coordinator for the Committee, says this is an update to a survey down a few years ago.

“To take a look at the needs of the region in terms of recreation, and this is a refresh of that same survey, and the survey results were used in the creation of the City of Grande Prairie and the County of Grande Prairie joint recreation masterplan.”

The survey was originally done back in 2015.

“There are questions in terms of how far residents are willing to drive to recreation facilities,” explained Schuett. “So, they could be classed as a regional asset. So, there is class one, class two, class three facilities and all of the different facilities can be viewed on our website.”

With that, some residents of the Grande Prairie region will be receiving postcards with details on how to access and complete the survey.

Schuett adds that the selection of those receiving the survey is random.

“It’s a random sample of residents within our seven partner municipalities, so that’s the City of Grande Prairie, the County of Grande Prairie, the Town of Sexsmith, Beaverlodge and Wembley, the Village of Hythe and the M.D. of Greenview.”

This survey is the first stage of public engagement with the second stage to be announced soon.
