Sexsmith Curling Club hosting Marc Kennedy for curling clinic

Feb 4, 2020 | 1:03 PM

The Sexsmith Curling Club is hosting a curling clinic with former Team Alberta member and now Northern Ontario third, Marc Kennedy this Sunday.

Kennedy is a world-class curler on the international scene. He’s won two World Curling Championships, a Gold Medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and three Briers.

Les and Renée Sonnenberg are also participating, by helping coach the clinic. Renée recently coached Canada at the 2018 Olympics in South Korea, while Les also has many years of curling experience.

Two teams from Sexsmith that are representing Northern Alberta at the Arctic Winter Games will also be in attendance.

The clinic is meant for people who curl occasionally and are trying to improve their game. It’s mainly geared toward adults.

“It’s a four-hour clinic where we share the latest and greatest techniques with brushing and throwing. We then have lunch where Marc tells some Olympics stories,” says Renée Sonnenberg.

The clinic has both a morning and afternoon session. The morning session runs from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., while the afternoon group will go from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and both sessions include lunch with Marc.

Sonnenberg says she’d like to see attendees end up enjoying the game more and leave as better players.

The final chance to register is Wednesday at noon. The best way to sign-up is by calling 780-518-5748 or by email at hack2pin@gmail.com. A link to the Facebook event can be found here.
