Huskies take game one in Falher 4-2

Feb 5, 2020 | 9:56 AM

The Grimshaw Huskies defeated the Falher Pirates 4-2 Tuesday night to take a 1-0 series lead in game one the NPHL quarter-finals.

After a scoreless first period, the second saw some action. Trevor Tokar would open the scoring for the Pirates to give them a 1-0 lead on home ice.

With 8:41 left in the second Al Mazur would get the Huskies on the board and tie things up at one on the powerplay. The Huskies continued their goal-scoring just 40 seconds later when Tyler Brenner would pick up the puck and score to make it 2-1.

It would stay that way for the rest of the second. A frustrating finish to the period for a Pirates team that outshot the Huskies 16-5 in the frame.

In the third the Huskies continued their momentum, as Ty Wiebe would add a goal with 10:07 remaining to give the Huskies a 3-1 lead.

With five minutes remaining in the Pirates were able to close the Huskies lead to one, thanks to a goal from Kris Desjarlais who made it 3-2, but that’s as close as they would get.

The Huskies would add an empty netter and steal home ice from the Pirates.

The teams rematch on Thursday night, when they will play game two of the best-of-five series in Grimshaw. Puck drop is at 8:30 p.m.
