One man in custody after incident at GPRC Wednesday morning

The Grande Prairie Regional College went into a brief lockdown Wednesday morning, due to a male on the school grounds wielding what was believed to be a knife.

The Grande Prairie RCMP received reports of the suspect, and quickly attended the scene.

“Obviously great concern when somebody has a knife out in a school environment, or any public place,” says Corporal Candace Hrdlicka. “So members responded immediately, and did place the college into a lockdown until the male could be located. He was located off the college property, outside of the school, and was taken into custody.”

Although initial reports were of a man wielding a knife, witness accounts and information gathered from security revealed the man had walked through the building, waving what appeared to be a stick, not a knife.
