Feb 6, 2020 | 12:49 PM

County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings @ North Peace Navigators

The County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings dropped their fifth straight game Wednesday, falling 4-2 to the North Peace Navigators.

In the first period, the JDA Kings struck first with a goal from Keaton Mercredi with six minutes remaining to make it 1-0. A nice statistic to see considering the Navigators outshot the Kings 19-3 in the frame.

The second period saw Mercredi add his second of the game to make it 2-0 for the Kings. After being outshot 19-3 in the first, the Kings outshot the Navigators 12-8 in the second and went into the third period with a 2-0 lead.

The third frame saw things fall apart for the Kings.

Theo Cunningham (Laderoute) kicked off the scoring which would lead to four unanswered goals, to give the Navigators a 4-2 victory.

Both teams are in action in Friday. The JDA Kings will hit the road to face the Fort St. John Huskies, while the Navigators will be home to the Sundown Oilfield Sexsmith Vipers.

Sundown Oilfield Sexsmith Vipers @ Dawson Creek Junior Canucks

The Dawson Creek Junior Canucks remained in second place in the NWJHL standings, following their defeat of the struggling Sundown Oilfield Sexsmith Vipers 7-2.

The Vipers got off to the start they wanted with a goal five minutes into the period coming from Daniel Forrest to give them an early 1-0 lead.

That Vipers lead wouldn’t last long, however, as Tanner Bahm would tie the game at one just 12 seconds later.

The Junior Canucks would go on and score six unanswered to win the game 7-2.

For the Vipers, this loss to the Junior Canucks marks their 21st in a row. They have not won since November 16.

Dawson Creek has now won two straight and have picked up points in four straight games.

The Junior Canucks are in Fairview on Friday to play the Flyers. The Vipers host the Navigators.
