Hamilton head coach Orlondo Steinauer unveils 2020 Ticats coaching staff

HAMILTON — Orlondo Steinauer will have plenty of familair faces on the sidelines with him this season.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats head coach unveiled his 2020 coaching staff Thursday and it includes nine returnees from last year’s squad. Steinauer added Mike Gibson as offensive line coach, who’ll replace Dennis McKnight.

Gibson had served previously as an assistant head coach and offensive co-ordinator with Hamilton (2009-2010). Gibson spent the previous four seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos, working as an assistant head coach/offensive line coach last year.

Four of Steinauer’s assistants will have new roles in 2020. They include: Tommy Condell (offensive co-ordinator/quarterback coach); Jim Barker (offensive/special teams assistant/personnel consultant); Craig Butler (defensive backs coach/special assistant) and Jarryd Baines (receivers coach).

Rounding out Steinuaer’s staff are Mark Washington (defensive co-ordinator), Jeff Reinebold (special teams co-ordinator), Robin Ross (linebckers), Randy Melvin (defensive line) and D.J. Harper (running backs).

 

Dinwidde unveils 2020 Argos coaching staff

TORONTO — Toronto Argonauts head coach Ryan Dinwiddie has settled upon his coachinf staff.

Jarious Jackson will serve as the club’s offensive co-ordinator while Glen Young is Toronto’s defensive co-ordinator. Jackson spent the two previous seasons as B.C.’s offensive co-ordinator/quarterback coach while Young spent the last four seasons with Winnipeg as a linebackers and defensive line coach.

Veteran CFL coach Mark Nelson is Toronto’s special-teams co-ordinator. Nelson spent six seasons with Ottawa as a linebackers coach and defensive co-ordinator.

Stephen McAddo will serve as offensive line coach after spending the last four seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Rounding out Toronto’s staff are Fred Reid (running backs), Markus Howell (receivers), Mike Davis (defensive line), Kevin Eiben (linebackers, special-team assistant), Ike Charlton (defensive backs) and Merritt Bowden (defence, special-teams assistant).

 

Roughriders sign veteran Gainey to extension

REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive back Ed Gainey to a one-year contract extension Thursday.

Gainey was scheduled to become a free agent Wednesday.

The five-foot-11, 193-pound Gainey enters his fifth season with Saskatchewan and ninth in the CFL. He had 56 tackles and two interceptions in 2019.

A two-time CFL all-star, Gainey has appeared in 114 career CFL regular-season games. He has accumulated 272 tackles, 34 special-teams tackles, one sack, 20 interceptions and four forced fumbles.

 

Eskimos sign linebacker Knox-Santos to extension

EDMONTON — American linebacker Jovan Santox-Knox and Canadian receiver Anthony Parker signed one-year contract extensions with the Edmonton Eskimos on Thursday.

Both players were scheduled to hit free agency Wednesday.

The six-foot-two, 233-pound Santos-Knox appeared in three games last season with Edmonton, registering 14 tackles and a sack. He has appeared in 34 career CFL games with Winnipeg and the Eskimos, accumulating 149 tackles, eight sacks, two interceptions and three forced fumbles.

Parker missed all of last season due to injury. The nine-year CFL veteran, who has also spent time with Calgary and B.C., has appeared in 117 regular-season games, registering 185 catches for 2,344 yards and 15 touchdowns.

He has also rushed 35 times for 326 yards and one touchdown.

 

Alouettes release receiver/returner Ryan

MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes released receiver/returner Shakeir Ryan on Thursday.

Ryan was set to become a free agent Wednesday.

The 24-year-old appeared in seven games last season, registering a catch for six years. He also returned 31 punts for 367 yards with a touchdown.

Ryan has also spent time with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and B.C. Lions. In nine career regular-season games, Ryan has returned 40 punts for 406 yards with the TD.
