Huskies, Flyers, Navigators pull out Friday wins in NWJHL

Jared Winkel’s goal at the 1:37 mark of overtime gave the Fort St John huskies a 6-5 win over the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings on Friday night.

Brady Marzocco added two goals for the Huskies, while Nils Nemec, Aiden Tegart and Alex Nimmo chipped in with singles.

Cody Graw scored twice for the Kings, while Geoff Dick, Corbin Doram and Brody Thomson added singles.

In other action, Tyler Wirth’s short handed goal halfway through the second period stood up as the winner as the Fairview Flyers edged the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks 5-4.

Kyle Cairns had a goal and two assists for the Flyers, while Dillon Wagner, Cale Fox and Zacheri Schlachter added singles.

Braden Streich, Mason Ducharme, Will Fletcher and Dustin Bahm scored for Dawson Creek.

The other game saw the North Peace Navigators move into second place in the league with a 12-2 win over the Sundown Oilfield Sexsmith Vipers.

Robert Lemay, Dawson Briscoe, and Tulsen Fawcett each scored twice for the Navigators, with Fawcett also adding a pair of assists for a four point night.

Kevin Schlack, Dawson Gour, Cole Ford, Keegan Ferguson,. Phoenix Dumas, and Owen Chamberland also scored for North Peace, who moved one point ahead of Dawson Creek with the victory.

Tanner Vinck and Clint Lefley replied for the Vipers.

Saturday night action in the NWJHL includes the Kings hosting Fairview in an 8 pm start at Crosslink County Sportsplex, while North Peace visits Fort St John.
