Alberta Justice says a one-year jail sentence has been handed out in a Grande Prairie child pornography case.

Justin Doucet was also given two years probation and ordered to be in the sex offender registry during an appearance January 29 in Grande Prairie Court of Queen’s Bench.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography. Charges of distributing and accessing child pornography were dismissed.

An agreed statement of facts in the case says that on December 23, 2016, the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre reported an upload of child porn on August 23 that same year.

The upload was traced to a Grande Prairie residence where a search was done March 17, 2017.

Investigators found 355 different images and 17 videos of girls between the ages of 7 and 14 on a smartphone and a tablet seized during the search.

Three-quarters of the images showed nudity, the rest also included some form of sexual assault or sexual interference.

The agreed statement of facts says Doucet gave two statements to police, during which he confessed to the possession of child pornography charge.

Break-in suspect admits to drug possession

Alberta Justice says a man charged after a couple of break-ins at local businesses has been sentenced on a single count of possession of a controlled substance.

Alberta Justice says Johnathon Richard Anderson was given 45 days time served for a single count of possession of a controlled substance on February 5, the same day a preliminary hearing was to take place.

More than a dozen other charges, including theft, and two counts each of shop breaking with intent and mischief, were dismissed.

Anderson was arrested on July 8, 2018, after what RCMP called at the time a series of break and enters in rural areas.

That included a break-in at the Clairmont Inn and another at Lefty’s Cafe and the Bezanson General Store.

Mounties said that second break-in happened May 9, 2018, and that what they describe as a significant amount of alcohol and tobacco products were stolen.

A second suspect was not identified.
