Sturmay comes up just short of provincial title

Feb 10, 2020 | 8:12 AM

The Karsten Sturmay rink came ever-so-close to a berth at the Tim Horton’s Brier.

The Sturmay rink, which features Dawson Creek natives Tristan Steinke and Jason Ginter, came up just short in the final of the Boston Pizza Cup in Westlock on Sunday, as they fell 7-6 to Brendan Bottcher in 10 ends.

Team Sturmay found themselves trailing 6-4 heading into the 8th but were able to score singles in both the 8th and 9th to draw even. However, Bottcher was able to secure the single in the 10th to claim the victory.

For Bottcher, it is his third Alberta provincial crown in four years. He will now advance to represent the Wildrose province at the Brier from February 29 to March 9 in Kingston, Ontario.
