Two local women participating in ATB crowdfunding campaign for entrepreneurs

Feb 12, 2020 | 5:30 AM

Two Grande Prairie entrepreneurs are hoping to expand their businesses with help from ATB.

Through ATB’s BoostR and Build Her Business initiatives, Michele McCrea and Dagny Guy will be participating in a crowdfunding campaign.

McCrea created and owns GuardaVent, a childproof and pet-proof floor vent cover that aims to reduce the risk of injuries to children without damaging floors.

McCrea says she wants to spread the word to people in search of a product like GuardaVent because it is a niche product meant for parents with young children.

“So right now, the vent covers all just can be lifted right out, and what mine are going to do is they are going to screw into the floor on the inside so you don’t damage your flooring,” says McCrea, “and then the covers lift up and down so we can still get in for cleaning or maintenance and when they’re down they have two little clips that clip in so that a child isn’t able to open it.”

Dagny Guy owns and operates Talented Solutions, a local consulting firm that began in 2018.

“First, it was just HR and recruitment, and then about six months in I decided to add a virtual admin division based on the inability for some clients to hire my services because they didn’t quite have a need yet, but they did have a need for somebody that could come in and help them on the administrative end of things.”

Build Her Business is a rewards-based crowdfunding campaign for women who are starting or looking to grow their businesses. The initiative also offers resources such as expert advice to the entrepreneurs involved.

The campaign pages can be found here for GuardaVent, and here for Talented Solutions. Rewards are also listed on those pages.

Both McCrea and Guy will be at the Grande Prairie Farmer’s Market on February 22 to showcase their products and businesses and promote their campaigns.

The campaign runs until March 3.
