The QEII Hospital has gained another specialist.

Alberta Health Services announced Friday that Dr. Modupe Omole has been practicing in Grande Prairie as an obstetrician and gynecologist, also known as an OB/GYN, since December. She becomes the fifth OB/GYN to serve patients out of the Queen Elizabeth the Second Hospital.

Dr. Omole hails from Nigeria, where she completed her medical training at the University of Ibadan. She then finished her medical residency at the Crozer Chester Medical Centre in Upland, Pennsylvania.

In a release, Health Minister Tyler Shandro says this will help provide more health services close to home for women and their growing families.

“This is especially true for growing families in northern Alberta. With 1,700 babies born in Grande Prairie last year, there is no doubt Dr. Omole’s skills will be put to very good use.”

Dr. Omole is joined in Grande Prairie by her husband, as well as her two children, a son and a daughter.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Dr. Omole to the community,” said Dr. James Pope, AHS’ Facility Medical Director at the QEII Hospital, in the same release. “She’s a great addition to our local care team and will help increase our residents’ access to obstetrics and gynecology care and provide more support to our current physicians.”
