Peace River area placed under extreme cold warning
Areas to the north of Grande Prairie have been placed under an extreme cold warning Monday afternoon, as wind chill values are expected to dip down to -40 over night.
The warning has been issued for the areas around Peace River, Fairview, High Prairie and Manning. The warning also stretches north to the Alberta/Northwest Territories border, and east to include the Slave Lake area.
Environment and Climate Change Canada says they do not expect this to be a long lasting event, as temperatures are expected to improve by Tuesday.
The weather office states that if you are outdoors, you should bundle up as frostbite can occur in mere minutes on exposed skin. They add that if it is too cold for you to be outside, it is also too cold for your pets.
