Court update: stolen mailbox keys lead to jail time, trials set in two other cases

Feb 18, 2020 | 5:30 AM

Alberta Justice says two people charged after an arrest involving stolen Canada Post keys earlier this year have pleaded guilty.

Grande Prairie RCMP said at the time Matthew Gilbert and Teanna Moyles were arrested after a January 5 traffic stop on Grande Prairie’s east side.

Police later located two stolen Canada Post keys, break-in instruments, and bear spray.

On January 20, Moyles pleaded guilty to five of the 17 charges she was facing, including possession of break-in instruments, make, possess or use a Canada Post key, plus three of failure to comply with a release order.

She was given 90 days in jail to cover all her charges in multiple cases.

On February 10, Gilbert pleaded guilty to six of the 14 charges he was facing, including possession of stolen property under $5000, possession of break-in instruments, and four of failure to comply with a probation order.

He was given 60 days to cover these and other charges.

Both were given credit for time already spent in custody.

Trial set in two cases

Jeante Maddox is set to stand trial September 3.

He was arrested and charged on December 10.

RCMP on patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle while on patrol. It turned out to be stolen and to have a stolen license plate.

Police also recovered a revolver, knife, bear spray, and a concealed gun holster.

Maddox is facing 14 charges.

Paul Michael Wilson will stand trial November 10.

He was charged after an arrest on January 4 of last year. A suspect vehicle rammed two police vehicles. No one was hurt. Mounties also found fentanyl, crack cocaine, and cash.

Wilson is facing seven charges.
