Alberta Medical Association prepping for court battle over new rules coming to compensation

Feb 21, 2020 | 4:49 PM

The head of the Alberta Medical Association says they’re prepping for a court fight over the new pay and benefits deal imposed on them by the province.

Doctor Christine Molnar says they’re exploring whether the government is violating physician rights under the Canada Health Act and under the Charter.

She says the AMA would rather work collaboratively with the province, but says they feel backed into a corner.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro terminated the master agreement this week, saying doctors would not get on board with changes necessary to keep physician fees from ballooning by an extra two-billion-dollars in the coming years.
