Athletics move to brink of NPHL final while Vipers even up NWJHL playoff series

Kiefer Smiley showed why he was named the NPHL’s top goaltender and most valuable player on Friday night.

The Grande Prairie Athletics’ goalie made 33 saves to pace his club to a 4-0 win over Manning, and a 3 games to 1 lead in their league semi final.

Lyndin Lewis with a pair, Riley Jebb and Andrew Buote scored for the A’s, who will try to punch their ticket to the final when they host game 5 on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers evened their NWJHL quarterfinal series at one win a piece after a 4-3 win over the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks.

Clint Lefley’s second goal of the game just 30 seconds into the third period stood up as the game winner for the Vipers, who also got goals from Jacksyn Clark and Wyatt Collins.

Lefley added a pair of assists for a four point night.

Chase Henrickson, Dayton nelson and James Lalikeas scored for the Junior Canucks, who will host game three of the series on Saaturday night.

The third game of the other quarterfinal between Fairview and the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings also goes Saturday night in Fairview, with that best of seven also tied at one win each.
