Feb 25, 2020 | 10:52 AM

It”s a busy night of hockey this evening in Grande Prairie, with three local teams hosting playoff games, while the Grande Prairie Storm jockey for playoff positioning.

Athletics look to advance to finals against Manning

The Grande Prairie Athletics look to advance to their second straight NPHL final Tuesday night, when they host the Manning Comets for game five of the semi-finals at the Coke Centre.

After the team’s split the first two games of the series, the Athletics have taken over to end up with a commanding 3-1 series lead.

A win tonight sets up a rematch of last year’s NPHL final against the Dawson Creek Canucks. An Athletics loss and the teams play game six on Thursday in Manning.

Puck drop is at 8:30 p.m.

Kings one win away from NWJHL semi-finals

The County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings will look to extend their playoff run Tuesday night as they host the Fairview Flyers in game four of the NWJHL quarterfinals at the Crosslink County Sportsplex.

All three games in the series have been decided by one goal, where two of those games were decided in overtime.

The Fort St. John Huskies await the winner of this series. If the Flyers win Tuesday, the decisive game five will be Wednesday night in Fairview.

Game time is 8:30 p.m.

Bantam AAA Golden Arrow Storm begin playoff journey against Leduc

Before the Kings and Flyers take the ice at the Sportsplex, the GPAC Bantam AAA Golden Arrow Storm will kickoff their playoff journey, with a best-of-three series against the Leduc Oil Kings.

After a tough six-game stretch for the Storm in late December and January, which saw them only pick up two points in those six games, the team has re-found their game.

The Storm went 5-0-1 in the month of February and come into the AMBHL playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the league.

Grande Prairie swept the season series 4-0 against Leduc.

Game one is 5:00 p.m. at the Crosslink County Sportsplex, game two is Wednesday night in Leduc.

If necessary, game three will be played at the Coke Centre on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

Storm battle for playoff positioning in regular season finale

While the last fourteen games have not been ideal for the Grande Prairie Storm, the team can decide their playoff fate tonight, as they host the Whitecourt Wolverines at Revolution Place.

A Storm win will lock-in a first-round matchup with the same Wolverines team and a sixth place finish in the AJHL’s North division standings.

If the Storm only manage to get a single point or lose, they’ll remain the seventh seed and play the Spruce Grove Saints in round one.

Tonight’s game gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
