Judge to rule on giving the province more time on a decision for the Rigel oilsands project
An Alberta judge is to rule this afternoon on whether to grant a stay of an order that requires the Alberta government to make an immediate decision on a proposed oilsands project near Fort McMurray.
Last week, Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Barbara Romaine gave the province 10 days to make a decision on the Rigel project.
Prosper Petroleum Ltd. argued that waiting for the last 19 months for the province to decide on the project has been unreasonable.
Government lawyer Doreen Mueller told the Alberta Court of Appeal that there are errors in Romaine’s decision and it amounts to a coercive, mandatory order.
